Building Bridges Through Communication: How AVP Ireland Uses Effective Communication to Strengthen Engagement with Volunteers and Achieve Its Objectives
Between 2024 and 2025, AVP Ireland has taken important steps to strengthen how we communicate, both within our community and externally. As a volunteer-led organisation, communication is not just about sharing information; it is at the heart of our work: building relationships, fostering trust, and creating connection.
To reflect on this process and identify best practices, a case study was developed in collaboration with Florence Kiff-Viruly, exploring AVP Ireland’s communication efforts over a 12-month period. Drawing on external communications and insights from members of our community, the study looks at both the challenges we faced and the approaches we took to address them.
The case study highlights how a more structured, values-driven approach to communication has helped us strengthen volunteer engagement, improve visibility, and build a more connected and sustainable community. It also shares practical examples from developing a clearer brand and digital presence to creating more opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and shared learning. Importantly, this work has remained grounded in AVP’s core values: consensus, honesty, collaboration, and community.
We hope this case study is both a reflection on our journey and a resource for others. It may be particularly relevant for volunteer-led, grassroots, and community-based organisations seeking to grow while staying true to their values.
